She was born on December 22, 1946, in Norfolk, Virginia to Burt Jack and Opal Wellman. She grew up in Williamson, West Virginia before moving to Michigan during her high school years, settling in Albion.
Sue worked as a caregiver at Ganton Retirement Home in Jackson before dedicating 34 years to food service at Albion College, where she was known for her strong work ethic and warm spirit.
On August 8, 1987, she married the love of her life, Michael Trine in West Virginia. Though she didn’t have children of her own, she was a stepmother to Tammy (Terry) Daniels and Mark (Rob) Trine and a grandma to Zachery (Brooklyn) Daniels whom she dearly cherished. She also had four nieces, five nephews and many great-nieces whom she loved dearly.
She enjoyed shopping, cooking and traveling with her husband. Her favorite destinations were Northern Michigan and her beloved hometown of Williamson, West Virginia. She also loved to visit Shipshewana, Indiana where she could combine her love of good food and shopping in the same place. She had a gift for hospitality when she cooked. Everyone was welcome at her table.
Sue is survived by a sister, Kathy Smith of Jackson, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as, David Wellman, Larry Wellman, Bob Wellman and Jackie Wellman.
Sue will be remembered as the heart of her family – selfless, nurturing and the sweetest soul you could ever meet. She took care of everyone like a mother and left a lasting mark on all who knew her.
A very heartfelt thank you to all the hospice nurses at Heartland Hospice. With warmest regards to our nurse, Ali, whose devotion and dedication brought Sue and our family through all the challenging moments. We will forever be grateful for you sharing in this part of our lives.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, April 28, 2025, at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion, MI 49224.
