

Celestine (Union) Johnson. A loving father and husband who entered eternal rest on October 17, 2012
at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.
Lawrence attended Albion Public Schools and graduated from Albion High School where he earned
varsity letters in football, basketball, and track. Lawrence served as a Corporal in the Army during
the Korean War. Lawrence also attended Wayne State University and Lansing Community College.
on September 18, 1955 he was joined in marriage to Evelyn J. Union (Hinton) and they were married
57 years until his death. He loved to watch golf and was an avid Wolverine and Wildcat fan. He
loved to travel and he and Evelyn have traveled to six of the seven continents of the earth.
Lawrence Union was baptized in Albion, Michigan and was a faithful attendee of Grace Temple Church
of God and Christ also in Albion. He served 26 years on the Albion Board of Education, including two
terms as president. He also served 18 years on the Calhoun County Intermediate School District
Board and 4 years on the State of Michigan’s Legal Trust Board. He served as assistant scout master
of Albion’s Troop #162 for many years. Lawrence worked 22 years for Corning Glass Works in Albion,
5 years as a lab technician for Union Steel in Albion, and retired after 15 years as a Correctional
Officer for the State of Michigan.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Union and mother Celestine Johnson, sisters
Barbara Jean Union and Jackie Couvillion. He leaves to celebrate his home going to wife Evelyn J.
Union (Hinton), 3 beloved children, Lawrence G. Union Jr. (Maryland Grier) of Hartford, CT, Mark
R. Union (Angela Union), and Dr. Craig D. Union (Dr. Lori Union) both of Atlanta, GA. Grandchildren
(10): Mario Merchant, Renita Craig, Lawrence G. Union III, Mark D. Davis, Joshua W. Union, Ashley
Paul, Parris Union, Jordan M. Union, Shanice Union, and Jalen Union; 9 great grandchildren; god daughter
Phyllis Wilson-Glasper, 2 aunts Mary Lee McFall and Mildred Williams, nieces, nephews, cousins,
Sister-in-law Cassie Reid, Brother-in-law Rev. Lawrence Hinton; and special friends Robert Walker,
Gordon Davidson, George Hawkins and Herbert Gant.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 12:00 P.M.(Noon) at the Grace Temple Church
Of God in Christ, 711 Grace Street, Albion, Michigan 49224 with Pastor Stephen Williams officiating. Family Hour will be Saturday, October 20th at 11:00 A.M. at the Church. Burial will be at Albion Memory Gardens,
Albion Township, Michigan.
