Ralph was a beloved husband, father and friend, but most of all Poppy to not only his grandchildren, but everyone. He was a life-long farmer, raising cattle, show pigs and grains. He loved the outdoors and shared his knowledge and talents with his family, especially his grandchildren. Ralph’s family has many fond memories at Locke Farms. Ralph was a very talented, kind, giving man who was able to balance his life with many activities such as being a big supporter of 4-H, FFA and raising show pigs for the fair. The livestock shows were always an exciting time for the Locke family.
In addition to farming, Ralph was an avid sportsman and enjoyed playing softball but also managed a team for over 40 years, supporting the players and was a well-known boxer, basketball and football player. He also loved hunting, especially for whitetail deer and had a special hunting spot on the farm.
In addition to being a committed family man, Ralph was also a friend and role model to many others. He was a kind, big-hearted man with an infectious personality who was always willing to give himself to others to be a friend, a mentor or whatever they needed. He was just “that guy”, everyone’s (especially his family’s) “Hero”. His passion was to be at his farm, with his family, playing and being fully present with his grandchildren.
My Hero, “You held my hand, when I was small. You caught me when I fell. You’re the hero of my childhood, and my later years as well. And every time I think of you, my heart still fills with pride. Though I’ll always miss you dad. I know you’re by my side. In laughter and in sorrow, In sunshine and through rain; I know you’re watching over me; Until we meet again”.
