

Richard “Rick” Weatherford went to be with the Lord at his home in Jackson, MI, on October 24, 2018, at the age of 70. Richard Weatherford was born in Albion, MI on October 24, 1948, to Richard Weatherford and Elverta (Hawkins) Weatherford. He attended Albion Public Schools and Ferris State University, where he received a degree in welding. He worked for Goodyear in Jackson, MI. He also joined the United States Air Force in 1970. In 1971, he married his wife Twila (Bridges) Weatherford. In 47 years in their union, they were blessed with 5 children. His most important decision was to accept Jesus Christ in 1976 and was a great role model of what a Christian should be! In 1990 he joined the Army National Guard and during his service he served in Vietnam and in Thailand during Desert Storm. Richard earned a second degree black belt in Taekwondo and became a martial arts instructor in Jackson. Richard started working for Jackson Transportation Authority in 1985, retiring in November 2017. He loved working with people, serving the Lord, fishing, and most of all spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Elverta; father-in-law, George Robert Bridges; and brother-in-law, Jerome (Alma) Morgan. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Twila of Jackson ; daughters, Layle and Bridjess Weatherford of Jackson; sons, Tiras and Jericho Weatherford and Shuntel (Jennifer) Fuller, all of Jackson; five grandchildren, Laynah, Nevaeh, Amari, Amaya, and Jack; his sister, Tonya (Jim) Arnett of Albion, two nieces Nichelle (Kevin) Freer of Kentucky and Kim Lee of Kalamazoo; special cousin, Donald Hawkins; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Bridges of Jackson; brothers-in-law, Orlando (Marlean) Bridges of Battle Creek and Lloyd Robert Bridges of Jackson; sisters-in-law, Valerie (David) Fant of Washington, D.C. and Alma (Jerome) Morgan of Albion; many nieces and nephews-in-law, and special friends, Joshua Bostwick, Dallas Ishmael, and Sterling Farr, all of
Jackson.
A reception to follow at Lewis Chapel AME Church (522 W Center St, Albion). All are welcome to attend and celebrate Richard’s life. The family would like to thank all Richard’s friends and neighbors for their thoughts and prayers, and the first responders of Jackson for their efforts.
Funeral Service will be Friday, November 2, 2018 at 12:00PM at Grace Temple Church of
God in Christ, 711 Grace Street, Albion, Michigan 49224 with Pastor Steve Williams
Officiating. Family Hour will start one hour prior to services. Interment will be on
Monday, November 5, at 2:00PM at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
