
Walter Joseph Robinson, 91, of Albion passed away Saturday October 22, 2011 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall. He was born February 27, 1920 in Glenwood, Georgia to Harvey Dixon and Mary Robinson. On January 12, 1952, he was married to Nora B. Coney in Pennsylvania and she survives.
He is a WWII U.S Army Veteran being discharged from active duty in January of 1946. While in Service he received 2 Bronze Stars, he was discharged from the Army Active Reserves in 1960. He came to Albion in 1952; he worked for Corning Glass Works, retiring September 12, 1975. He was a member of the Masonic Temp and was awarded a Twenty Year Service Award in 1992 by the F & AM Masons and Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Albion and was also a Trustee, Financial Secretary, Usher and the Church sign painter. He had attended Philadelphia Technical Institute prior to coming to Albion and received a plaque for Show Card Writing in 1950.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter Shirley (Curtis) Womack of Allen, TX; 2 Grandchildren Andrea (Shannon) Johnson, and Marc (Jennifer) Womack; 4 Great Grandchildren Angelina Johnson, Chloe Womack, Trenton and Turner Smiley; a sister Mozelle Carr of Detroit; brother Joseph Dixon of Patterson, NJ. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leroy, Freddie, David, James and Bennie Dixon, Grady Robinson and sisters Lucille Laird and Louise Nero.
Family Hour will be Thursday October 27, 2011 from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1010 Chauncey Street, Albion, MI 49224. Funeral Service will be Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at the Church with Pastor Charles E. Magee officiating. Burial will follow at Albion Memory Gardens Cemetery-Albion Township, MI.
