Mrs. Jeanne Tipton Mason

Dorothy Jean (Jeanne) Tipton Mason, 87, of Maryville, TN passed away in the late evening of Wednesday, November 22, 2017. Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde L. and Nancy S. Tipton, infant sister Doris June Tipton, and Gladys S. Van Hook, her aunt raised as her sister. Jeanne was baptized and married at Broadway United Methodist Church (Maryville, TN) and after moving to Rockwood, TN she directed the youth choir, served as First and Second Grade Sunday School teacher, and sang in the Chancel Choir at Rockwood United Methodist Church. She sang with the Roane Choral Society. Jeanne is a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Knoxville, TN. Jeanne attended Maryville College and graduated with her BS from the University of Tennessee where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. Jeanne completed her MS degree + 45 hours in Education at the University of Tennessee. Prior to her marriage, Jeanne served as U.T. Extension Agent for Monroe County, TN. In addition to leading Girl Scout troops, and serving as PTA President, Jeanne was an elementary school teacher in Rockwood, TN for twenty years. Following retirement, Jeanne volunteered as a Pink Lady at Chamberlain Memorial Hospital and later Harriman City Hospital. She also served as both the Vice President and President of the Roane County Retired Teachers Association. Jeanne was an exceptional woman, not only for the roles mentioned above, but because she was a woman of strength, pride and honor. Jeanne battled and conquered breast cancer twice without ever losing her faith or gumption. Jeanne loved her husband without end, even in her last years with us, despite having Alzheimer’s Disease, she never forgot the man that stood next to her through 63 years of life. Jeanne had pride in her children and grandchildren and loved them unconditionally. Even in death, Jeanne will continue to love, guide and support her family. Surely as she did during her time here with us, Jeanne is now in heaven volunteering for God and caring for her loved ones. Jeanne is survived by her husband of 63 years Jimmy A. Mason, her daughter Nancy and husband Edward Reddy (Knoxville, TN), her daughter Mary and husband Dr. Warren Lesser, DBA (Louisville, KY), her grandchildren, Whitney and husband Paul Schulten (Louisville, KY), Greg Lesser and wife Amanda (Louisville, KY), Dr. Georgia Lesser, MD (Greenwood, SC), PatrickClyde Reddy and MaryAnn Reddy (Knoxville, TN), her great-granddaughter Lucy Lesser and her great-grandson Christian Schulten (Louisville, KY), brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Mary Margaret Mason (Madisonville, TN), nieces Angela Talent (Vonore, TN) and Melanie Mason Bass (Byhalia, MS), cousins-just-like-nephews Stoney Van Hook and Joe Van Hook (Oliver Springs, TN), just-like-a-daughter Debra Mills (Knoxville, TN), cousin Barbara Jo Phelps Hitch (Maryville, TN) and many Scarbrough cousins. Funeral Service will take place Sunday, November 26th at 1:00pm at Ebenezer United Methodist Church 1001 Ebenezer Road Knoxville, TN with burial to follow at Grandview Cemetery 2304 Tuckaleechee Pike Maryville, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Jeanne be made to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, The Pat Summitt Foundation, Ebenezer United Methodist Church Building Fund or your house of worship.
