

Joseph (Joe) Wesley Houchins, 66, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on October 20, 2017, in his family home. He was born in Knoxville to Douglas and Mary (Blevins) Houchins. He graduated from Doyle High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from East Tennessee State University. He worked with his brother for Houchins Construction for many years building homes for friends and family, and for many other home owners. Joe is preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife, Denise Houchins; sisters Nancy Daves (Jerry), Jane Cox (Cas), brother Fred Houchins (Susan); nieces Laura Daves Heinz (Mark), Hester Daves Beecher (Bill), and Sara Houchins and nephew Jesse Houchins (Tara Minx). Joe loved to fish and hunt, and he had many good friends who shared time with him in the early morning hours on the water or in the woods. He was a master craftsman, talented artist, and potter, and continued his love for making pottery until only a few months ago. He was a quiet and kind man who will be dearly missed by his wife, his family and his many friends. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on November 4, 2017 at 11:00 am at New Prospect Presbyterian Church, 4920 Prospect Road, Knoxville, with Reverend Denny Ford presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cades Cove Preservation Fund, P.O. Box 1660, Kodak, TN 37664. Arrangements under the direction of Sherwood Chapel and Memorial Gardens, Alcoa, TN.
