Stephen R. Moseley, born June 28, 1949, passed peacefully into eternity on Wednesday, July 26, 2017. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ray and Lois Moseley of Chattanooga, TN. He leaves behind Brenda, his wife of 44 years, his four children, Jennifer, Lyndsay, Brad and David, who will remember a dad who never missed a ballgame, tournament, concert or recital, and his cherished grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers Rick and Bob, and his baby sister Diane and their families, loved as his own. A business lawyer for more than 4 decades, Stephen was a partner at Moseley-Ragle, where he practiced with longtime friend, Alan Ragle. As a contract specialist, he was a true wordsmith. His goal was always to defend and protect his clients by crafting elegant but ironclad agreements, and his ability to find resolution and consensus was envied. Stephen often said his clients should never see the inside of a courtroom, and if they did, that he had failed. However, if they found themselves in litigation, they were usually victorious. Stephen was competitive and took no prisoners. “Cast-iron bulldog” was his nickname, and it played out whether he was negotiating for clients or hitting the ski slopes. He was a man who truly worked hard and played hard. He was an avid reader and world traveler from a young age. He visited Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and Africa and, in these travels, he learned to appreciate the American justice system. He promoted the rule of law and fair court procedures in a partnership with the Republic of Georgia. To family and friends he was a trusted advisor, and he considered his relationships to be covenants. Stephen embodied integrity. His work ethic and faith were taught by example—not lecture. His prayer life was authentic, deep and sustaining. Family man, lawyer, disciple and friend, Stephen lived his life well and will be profoundly missed. Receiving of friends will be Saturday, August 5th at 10:30am with a Memorial Service to follow at noon at Sherwood Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 3176 Airport Hwy, Alcoa, TN 37701. The family asks that donations be directed to the Amyloid Research Fund at Vanderbilt University Medical Center or Hillsdale College. Condolences may be offered at www.sherwoodchapel.net.
