Our wonderful Mother, Grandma, and friend will be greatly missed.
Highlights of Zena’s full and interesting life were her childhood days in Lamont AB. She worked at the family store, studied meteorology, and became a teletype operator. Zena worked as an advertising consultant and weather broadcaster at the radio station. Later, she worked as an assistant college librarian.
In our younger days in Vanderhoof B.C. our mother constantly educated us to every possible cloud formation visible in the sky, we can still see those altocumulus castellanus clouds above our heads.
She travelled with her girlfriend to Australia in her youth then married and raised four boys on a dairy and sheep farm in northern BC. Mom was always full of life, continually seeking new adventures and learning new skills. She loved music and referred to her violin as the heavenly instrument. Mom played the accordion and painted beautiful oil landscapes that we will cherish forever.
Zena is a testament to healthy living and passed on her secrets to those around her, this included wonderful recipes and exercise routines. She however would never disclose how she made her fabulous beet borscht and took that secret with her. One of Moms main interests was her garden, spending much time, cultivating vegetables, berries and flowers and of course winning awards.
Zena is survived by her four sons, William (Carole) of Mission B.C., Gary (Helena) of Thunder Bay ON., James (Sheila) from Vernon B.C., Robert (Cammy) of Victoria B.C., and stepson Alan from Rimouski QC., Zena is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and one step grandchild.
Zena is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Evelyn, brothers Peter, Victor and Alex and sister Irene, also by husband Wilbur Scott Coughlin and second husband George Ron Cooper.
