Alice Marie Friend was one-of-a-kind. Born June 12, 1948 to the late John and Twyla Lazenby in Litchfield, Illinois, she spent 68 years blessing the lives of those around her. Alice passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and faithful friend to all who knew her. She was an original, a veritable renaissance woman who was uniquely gifted at so many things. She loved Christmas and began decorating months prior, still hanging lights and decorating trees until Christmas day. She was also an artist when it came to sewing. She was a talented seamstress known for stitching love into clothing for her family and even dogs. She relished life and knew how to have fun. A nickel slot machine stood no chance when she sat down to win! Alice celebrated food, especially sweets. In fact, she never met a snack cake she didn’t like. To Alice, “a balanced diet was a cookie in each hand.” She spent the majority of her professional career as a waitress or in restaurant management. She is preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter Pyper Friend, and her great-grandson Zeek Friend. Left to cherish a lifetime of memories and a legacy of love is her husband of 43 years, Terry Friend; her children Dawn, Teresa, Katrina, John, Dennis, Michelle, and Susan; her brother Lee (Carol) Lazenby, and Barbara (Bob) Gretak, 29 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and anyone with the good fortune to call her friend. A Visitation will be held to celebrate her life on Monday, June 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills, 10200 Hwy 5 North, Alexander Arkansas with Larry Kingrey officiating. You are invited to come offer your condolences, share your favorite Alice story, and enjoy one last slice of chocolate pie in her honor.
