Catherine Plunkert Kaputa, 73, a third-generation Washingtonian, died in Alexandria, VA on November 2, 2011, of complications from heart and lung disease.
Daughter of the late Leo B. Plunkert, owner of Plunkert's Garage in NE Washington, Catherine attended the Academy of the Holy Cross in Washington, DC and graduated from Trinity College, now Trinity University, in Washington, DC in 1958. She headed up the Department of Justice's Executive Personnel office in the 1980's, capping a 28-year career with the federal government. Wife of the late Edward J. Kaputa, she is survived by her daughter Cathy (Paul) Sutphin, their children Lucy and Nicholas, and her son Joesph Kaputa (Jessica) and their daughter Samantha.
Visitation will be at Demaine Funeral Home at 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314 on Friday, November 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, November 5 at 10 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mount Vernon Highway, Alexandria, VA 22309.
