Charles Albert Belanger

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles (Chuck) Albert Belanger on the 24th of February, 2026 at the age of 78. Charles was a beloved husband, father, and friend. Born on June 17th, 1947 in Washington D.C., to Gerard Belanger and Lillian Bourret.

As a youngster he attended Catholic school and continued his higher education at the University of Maryland where he graduated with a Master degree in Printing Technology and Management His professional life took form when he joined the University of the District of Columbia as an assistant professor. After he became tenured he served as the Chairman of Graphic Communications. He retired at the age of 62 after working at UDC for 35 years.

Chuck excelled at working with people, as evidenced by the number of colleagues and former students who have reached out after his passing. He loved being with family and friends and was always willing to help people. He loved carpentry which was evident in the many hours he spent cutting wood, pounding nails etc and building things in the houses he lived in. It was a wonder to his family how he used his “relaxing” time in this way, always enjoying how the final product came together. He also spent his summers organizing unforgettable camping and road trips to help create memories for his family.

After his retirement he was faced with a cancer diagnosis. With the help of wonderful doctors and advanced in medicine he was able to overcome his illness. However, the treatments caused complications that left him paraplegic. Despite being told that he would never walk again, Chuck was determined not to give up and through hard work he was able to walk again with the help of crutches. This made it possible for him to visit Europe, S. America, and travel all over the country. In the last days of his life Chuck continued to exemplify resilience, strength, acceptance and love.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Graciela Kattah Belanger, and his children, Charles Alexander Belanger, Nicholas Albert Belanger, Michelle Belanger Moore and Christopher Jordan Moore.

Charles will be remembered on Monday, March 9th at 12:00 pm at Saint Louis Church, 2907 Popkins Ln, Alexandria, VA 22306.
