Chuck was the beloved husband of 50 years to Gail Rothrock Trozzo; dear son of the late Charles C. Trozzo and Inez (Baney) Trozzo; loving brother of the late Norma (Samuel) Hopkinson; cherished father of Paul (Sandee) Trozzo and the late Catherine Molony; and treasured grandfather of Rosaleen Molony.
He earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Notre Dame and received his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from Harvard University.
Chuck enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a researcher, consultant and teacher, primarily in the fields of industrial, regulatory and defense economics. His professional experience included academic positions at Harvard University, George Washington University and Georgetown University Law Center; Federal Government service as Senior Staff Economist with the Council of Economic Advisors, Assistant to the Director of the Bureau of Economics in the Federal Trade Commission, Staff Director in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and Director in the General Services Administration; and private sector roles with the Institute for Defense Analyses, Charles River Associates, Dymond Associates, Inc., Bushnell, Pearsall and Trozzo, Inc., Richard J. Barber Associates, Inc. and Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation. Returning to Charles River Associates in 1991 as senior consultant, he retired in 2017.
After moving to Old Town, Alexandria in 1976, Chuck became committed to the stewardship of the City’s historic resources. He donated his time and energy to a number of volunteer boards and committees. He served as chair of the Alexandria Historical Restoration and Preservation Commission from 2004 to 2014. In addition to helping expand the AHRPC’s preservation and open space easement program, he was instrumental in initiating the survey of the City’s historic alleys. He also participated in various preservation causes to preserve the historical legacy of Old Town’s Historic Districts.
Chuck greatly enjoyed cheering on Notre Dame football, playing tennis, traveling with friends both in the United States and abroad, reading and discussing books (especially with his book club of more than 40 years). He was an avid wine collector, and with his wife, regularly attended performances by the National Symphony Orchestra and the Kennedy Center Chamber Players. Chuck and Gail enjoyed their long-time historic residence in Old Town and spent many hours in their garden, appreciating its peace and beauty.
A celebration of his life will be held in early spring.
