

Constance (Connie) Wisowaty Brown, 88, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died of natural causes at her home in Alexandria on August 19. Connie was born in Harmans, MD on September 18, 1927 to Felix and Stella Wisowaty. She graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1944. After completing secretarial studies, she worked in an administrative role for the Marine Corps at the Pentagon for several years before marrying LTCDR Irwin Manning Brown, Jr. in 1950. Irwin’s career as a naval aviator and aeronautical engineer moved the couple to Memphis, TN; Des Plaines, IL; Norfolk, VA; and Ottawa, Canada before they settled in Alexandria, VA in 1964. During that time, Connie was very active as the wife of a military officer and devoted countless hours to her many volunteer and philanthropic roles, most notably at Ft. Belvoir and Mt. Vernon Hospitals where she served for over 40 years. Connie had many interests and passions that she pursued throughout her lifetime to include travel, gardening, skiing, golf, sailing, bowling, bridge and spending time with family and friends. She was an active member of the Mt. Vernon Garden Club, Mt. Vernon Yacht Club and Annapolis Yacht Club. For the past few decades, Connie enjoyed many winters in her beloved Sarasota, FL surrounded by extended family.
Connie is preceded in death by her husband, Irwin Manning Brown, Jr. She is survived by her three (3) children: Constance W. (Windy) Brown (Rick) Bar Harbor, ME; Bonnie B. Burlage (Guy) of Bridgewater Corners, VT; and George A.M. Brown (Lori) of Alexandria, VA. She was the loving grandmother to Barret Burlage, Oliver Curry, Tegan Curry and George Brown, Jr. Connie was also great grandmother to Grace Curry.
A Catholic funeral mass and memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 8710 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22309 on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Mothers’ Against Drunk Driving (MADD) or the Dorothea R. Fisher Wound Healing Center at Mt. Vernon Inova Hospital.
