

On Sunday September 11, 2022 she passed away at home in her apartment at The Fairfax. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Colonel Anthony G. Bauer, four children Anthony A., Suzanne, Christina, Bridget (Tim), nine grandchildren Lauren (Glen), Matthew (Meg), Anthony C. (Ann), Katy (Jack), Michael, Joseph, Alexandra, Nicholas, Benjamin, and two great grand-daughters Caroline and Juliette.
Dolores was born in New York City on October 12, 1937, educated in the Catholic school system for 12 years. She graduated in 1955 from Dominican Commercial High School in Jamaica, NY. After graduation she worked for the NY Telephone Company as a business representative before marrying in 1958. For twenty-five years she was a devoted Army wife, moving to Italy, Germany, and raising her four children with love and discipline, twice alone while her husband served tours in Vietnam. She was an active member of the Signal Wives Club here in Washington. While in Germany in 1974 she served as Director of the American Youth Activities in Wurzburg, Germany.
Shortly before her husband retired from the Army she decided to become a Real Estate Agent and later Broker, working both here in Virginia and New Jersey. She retired from that profession in 1997 a year before her husband followed her lead. They traveled and cruised together in the states and Europe. Dolores was a devoted bridge player, had an outstanding wit, which family and friends thoroughly enjoyed.
A visitation will occur on September 20 between 3-6 PM at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St. Alexandria VA 22314. There will be a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at the Basilica of Saint Mary, 310 S. Royal Street, Alexandria, VA 22314, on Wednesday, September 21.
Interment will occur at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
