

Dorothy Jensen Bearden passed away April 6, 2012, at Mount Vernon Hospital just one week before her 91st birthday. She passed away quietly surrounded by family members. Dorothy lived in the Mount Vernon area since 1967. She retired from service with the Federal Government in the early 80's and continued to work as a reemployed annuitant. She was very active as a volunteer at Mount Vernon Estate and Fort Belvoir's DeWitt Army Hospital. Dorothy volunteered until at the age of 89 health issues forced her into assisted living at The Fairfax. Never one to slow down, she taught shorthand to a few of her nurses while there.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Norman C. Bearden and her sister Lora Hiltabidel. She is survived by her brothers Howard and Jack Jensen and her sister Edith Rosenbaum. Dorothy is also survived by her three children, Thomas H. Bearden, Martha B. Quinn, and Richard H. Bearden. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren, Katie Mattson, Elizabeth Bearden, Emily Long, Alison Quinn, and Anna Counihan; and one great grandchild, Maddie Mattson.
