Jaime was born on August 23, 1937, in Cajamarca, Peru, as the third of five siblings. He attended Leoncio Prado military college for high school and graduated in 1964 from the National University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru, with a medical degree.
In 1965, Jaime fulfilled his lifelong dream by emigrating to the United States to pursue a career in medicine. He completed an internship in Baltimore followed by a residency in New York. In 1971 he completed a Radiology residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and went on to complete a Fellowship in Angiography and Neuroradiology in 1972, ultimately dedicating his career to the field of Interventional Radiology (IR).
In 1977, Jaime moved from Albany, New York, to Richmond, Virginia, where he joined the staff at the Medical College of Virginia (now VCU Health), serving as a Professor of Radiology until his retirement in 2010. Teaching was a true passion for Jaime, and he dedicated countless hours to mentoring residents, fellows, and technologists. His contributions to the field of IR helped advance the specialty.
Beyond his work, Jaime was a devoted family man. He passed on his love of soccer to his children, coaching their teams and cheering them on. He was active in community organizations, including the Knights of Columbus. Jaime also traveled internationally on medical missions, providing care to patients in South America and Africa, reflecting his lifelong commitment to helping others.
After retiring in 2010, Jaime continued his love for travel, often attending medical conferences and sharing his knowledge with others in the field. His passion for medicine never wavered, and he remained a lifelong learner, always curious and engaged.
Jaime is survived by his children, Samantha Tisnado of Richmond, Virginia; Melissa Tisnado of Alexandria, Virginia; and Jamie Tisnado of New York, New York.
A private service and interment will be held.
