James Carlin Allen, 88, of Alexandria, VA, died on September 28, 2011 following a courageous battle with kidney failure. His determination to carry on was an inspiration to all who knew him. After valiantly serving his country as a Marine in the South Pacific during World War II, he returned home, started a family, and attended American University. After college, he fought tirelessly for workers' rights for many years as an executive in the Industrial Unions Department of the AFL-CIO until his retirement. Carlin was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anna P. Allen, of Alexandria, VA; sister, Virginia Young, of York, PA; and brother, Robert C. Haith, of Panama City, FL. He was a loving and supportive father to his daughter, Sharon, and son-in-law, Robert I’Anson, of Mason Neck, VA; son, James C. Allen, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, of Lake Ridge, VA; and son (deceased), Michael R. Allen, and daughter-in-law, Mary, of McLean, VA.
