James Conrad Lamantea

Sergeant Major (ret.) James C. “Jack” Lamantea of Alexandria, VA, passed away peacefully at the Adler Center in Aldie, Virginia, on November 28, 2023. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on July 4, 1933, he was the son of Catherine (Mazzullo) and Frank Lamantea, the dear brother of Lucretia "Dolli" Bacchi and her husband, Tony, of Massachusetts, and Santa Ann “Sandy” Leone of Massachusetts. Jack is survived by his sisters Dolli and Sandy, his two daughters, Claire Ann Lamantea Reash (Liam McCarthy) of Dublin, Ireland, and Stacey Lamantea Brown (Bob Snyder) of Pennsylvania, his granddaughter, Jennifer Swisher of Pennsylvania, and former wife, Sandra "Louise" Lamantea. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Dominic and George Lamantea, sister Baby Catherine Lamantea, and granddaughter, Chelsea Reash.

SGM Lamantea was a career military man, serving proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps before joining the U.S. Army and rising to the rank of Sergeant Major. He was a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces, an Airborne Ranger, Master Parachutist, and a combat veteran who earned numerous awards and commendations, including the Legion of Honor, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (multiple awards), the Purple Heart, and many foreign awards, among others.

Jack had a big heart and a quick wit. He loved fishing and his family and friends for whom he could never do enough. He will be missed by all who knew him and by the many whose lives he touched and made all the better for having done so. May he rest in everlasting peace.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 12:00PM-4:00PM; with a Blessing Service beginning at 1:00PM held at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314.

Burial will be held with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
