James Ratliff of Alexandria, VA passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital, from
complications associated with Parkinson's Disease. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Lola Rowe Ratliff. He is also survived by a large and loving family that includes three sons, Jeffrey Byron, Curtis Leonard and wife Patty, Eric Johnson and wife Connie; six grandchildren, Allison, Michael, Kathryn, Tyler, Jeffrey and Jennifer as well as two great-grandchildren, Chase and Reese; and two sisters, Francis Stacy of Charlotte, NC and Joyce Jordan of Atlanta, GA.
Jim was born in Grundy, VA and attended Milligan College in Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Army 10th Corps Headquarters in Korea, during the Korean War. He was a devoted father who moved his family to Alexandria, VA in 1961. He was employed by the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority, retiring in 1987.
An avid golfer, Jim was a member, and past club champion, of the Mount Vernon Country Club since 1979, and the winner of numerous area tournaments including the Northern Virginia Senior and the Washington Metropolitan Championships. Jim was also a beloved and dedicated youth baseball, basketball, and football coach for many years in Grundy and Alexandria, VA. Services will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1301 Collingwood Road,
Alexandria, VA, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013, with a reception to follow.
