He was born the youngest of five children in Grand-Mere, Quebec, Canada in 1953. He moved repeatedly throughout his life, eventually becoming a dual citizen of Canada and the United States. He earned a Master’s degree in Physics from Laval University in Quebec with thesis performed in Lyon, France. He had a keen thirst for knowledge and continued to explore new technologies throughout his life.
He lives on in our memories as a charming, intelligent, athletic man who took joy in nature. He skied all over the U.S., Canada and in Europe. He was a member of the ski patrol at Bromont Mountain. He never failed to stop and render assistance to fallen skiers. He was patient in teaching others techniques for skiing, mountain biking, and other forms of exercise.
He shared sixteen wonderful years with his wife, Angela LaHaie Bédard. It was love at first sight when he introduced himself, with his charming French accent, at a Lone Star Ski Club meeting in 2003. They enjoyed a deeply committed, loving and caring relationship filled with travel and adventure.
He leaves behind his daughter, Genevieve Nadeau, her son, William Ferland and son in law Olivier Ferland. Jean-François taught Genevieve to ski at age six and it was exhilarating to watch them ski together in a rhythmic dance down the mountain. Jean-Francois encouraged and took great pleasure in little William’s skill on skis, mountain biking and hockey.
He is survived by three sisters, Renee Bedard, France Tremblay and Chantal Bedard, niece Sophie Tremblay and nephews Claude Villemure, Martin Viellmure, Julien Bédard, and Charles Tremblay, who reside in Quebec City, Canada.
Jean-François’ contributions in engineering will long outlive him. He leaves a legacy of those solutions and numerous colleagues and friends at Teledyne/Dalsa in Bromont, QC, Canada, Texas Instruments, Maxim Semiconductor and TriQuint in Dallas, Texas. He taught semiconductor to PhD students at the University of Sherbrooke, in Quebec, Canada. In each of these companies, Jean-François was known for his enthusiasm and vision in resolving issues, while never seeking rewards and recognition. His satisfaction came from solving problems and sharing his knowledge with others. He is a rare individual who has left an indelible mark on everyone he has known.
