

Mr. Minix was born in Melrose, Virginia on July 9, 1921 and grew up in Naruna Virginia. After graduating from Naruna High School in June 1939, Mr. Minix went to Whitten Funeral Home in Lynchburg, Virginia to serve his apprenticeship. IN 1941 he went to Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tennessee. Upon graduating in June 1942, he enlisted in the Navy and served as a Pharmacists’s Mate at Norfolk Naval Hospital and Portsmouth Naval Hospital. From the Spring of 1944 until the end of World War II, Mr. Minix served on the LaPorte 151 in the South Pacific. In the fall of 1945, he went back to Whitten Funeral Home in Lynchburg until January 1949. Mr. Minix then was appointed Funeral Director of Thomas Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Virginia. In the spring of 1957, he came to Demaine Funeral Home, where he worked as Embalmer and Funeral Director and later as General Manager until his retirement in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Sara, his parents Thomas Henry and Fannie Lee Davis and his brothers and sisters Bertha Shortt, Henry Minix, Mae Wingfield and Sam Minix.
John is survived by his three children Martha M. Boles, Rebecca C. Munse and C. Michael Minix. He is the grandfather of Shawn, Sara Kathleen and Robby Boles, Brian and Laura Munse and Rusty, Tyler and Chelsea Minix.
Friends may call at the Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 where the family will be present on Monday July 2, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Fairfax Memorial Park on Tuesday July 3 at 11 AM
