Maria Aurora Slater

Maria Aurora Slater, age 79, of Alexandria, Virginia passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024. Maria Aurora Slater was born on November 6th, 1944, to Isabello Villaroman and Belen Ayala. Maria grew up in Baltimore, MD with her old sister Maria Teresita “Tessie”, younger brother Anastasia “Joe” as well as her younger sister Maria Luisa “Mary Lou”. She received her nursing degree in 1968 from the University of Maryland where she met Carl Slater. Maria & Carl were married in 1966, and they bought a home and moved to Alexandria, VA in 1974. This is where Maria would live the rest of her 50 years of life. They were blessed with three sons, Christpher, Carl Jr. and Michael. Maria sadly became a widow in 1981. Through much prayer and the strength of God in her life, she continued to work as an ER nurse at Fairfax Hospital and raise her three sons. Several years after Carl’s death, her heart was captured by Eric Medina and in 1985 they had a son also named Eric. Sadly Eric Medina had fallen ill and passed away in 1992. Placing her complete faith and trust in God she found her purpose in life praying for, loving and blessing to others through the Carmelite Order, a mendicant order of the Roman Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her selflessness, always putting others' wills in front of her own, and her powerful prayers. Maria peacefully passed away on May 24th, 2024 at the age of 79. Maria is survived by her younger sister Maria Luisa, four sons Christopher, Carl Jr., Michael and Eric, and six grandchildren Justin, Matthew, Jason, Maya, Jocelyn and Mina. A funeral mass for Maria will be held Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Louis Catholic Church, 2907 Popkins Lane, Alexandria, VA 22306. A graveside service will occur Friday, June 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Loudon Park Cemetery, 3600 Wilkens Ave, Baltimore, MD 21229.
