Martha Jane Griffin

Mrs. Martha Jane (Pendell) Griffin, of Alexandria, Virginia, born on July 15, 1931, in Wichita, Kansas, to the late Lucille Pendell and the late Elmer Pendell, passed away at age 87 on November 30, 2018. She graduated from George Washington High School and The George Washington University, where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. Jane was married to the late James E. Griffin for 61 years. Jane was an avid reader, who also enjoyed rescuing stray animals, gardening, and traveling. She was a member of the congregation at Washington Farm Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, Virginia. In the late '60s and early '70s, Jane was an active volunteer and team representative for the NVSL swim team at Mansion House Club. She is survived by her son, James E. Griffin Jr.; daughter, Jackie Griffin Sable; grandchildren, Meghan Bachert, Adam Sable, and Victoria Griffin; and great-grandchildren, Noble Bachert and Penelope Bachert. Friends and family members may attend the visitation on Thursday, December 6, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home on 520 South Washington Street, Alexandria.
