I just happened by chance upon the obituary of your son Michael tonight.  Although it is many years since, it touched me deeply.  I cannot say how sorry I am for your loss.  Michael seems to have accomplished so much despite the incomprehensible struggles he must have endured.  My prayers, even now so belated, are with you both and for Michael.

I remember meeting Michael as a little boy at a family reunion in Bremerton.  The cousins were playing in the back yard when Michael threw a rock at me to say hello.  On the evening Michael passed away, I found a polished agate right outside my car door;  beautiful, worn smooth by grinding & tumbling.  Heaven just gained a beautiful soul!  Love you guys!

Tonight, as I remembered Michael, and as I read the heartfelt condolences shared in this guest book, no words seemed adequate to comfort you. Perhaps this memory of an ordinary afternoon that Michael shared with my son, David, will help in some way.

In 2014, Michael and two or three other friends were at our house for a WarHammer painting session. The "boys" swapped tips and talked strategy and ribbed each other mercilessly as young men often do. I'm smiling now as I  recall Michael's wry humor in noting David's clearly inferior painting technique. I have thought often of that ordinary, yet very special, afternoon and will be forever grateful for Michael's caring soul and for the camaraderie he shared that day.

I am truly sorry for your loss, Mr. & Mrs. Fijalka.  Michael was such a sweet person and hard-working student at Sandburg.  I pray for you and your family.

I am very sorry for your loss.  I had the honor of meeting Michael in grade school, and I am very sadden by his lost, but proud of his fight.  He will always be an inspiration to me, and we shall never forget him.  My prayers go out to his family.

Seeing those old pix of GI and you bring back memories of a simpler, kinder time.  Michael made the rest of us look like pikers when we talk about our struggles in life.  He is the definition of a fearless man.  'Blest are they...theirs is the Kingdom of God.'

I did not know Michael but he must have been a very courageous young man to battle such a terrible disease for so much of his life.  My prayers for him and his family and friends at this heartbreaking time.  May beautiful memories of Michael fill your spirit.

We are so sad to hear of Michael's passing. His faith and determination was an example for us all. He truly exemplified the tenets of Scouting and of the Eagle Rank he worked so hard to earn. Praying for comfort and peace for you and the family.

The world has lost the kindest, sweetest, bravest soul. Our hearts are broken. We feel blessed to have known him, but are devastated that it was too short. We can't even begin to image the unbearable pain that Mike and Sharon are enduring right now and our hearts go out to them.

I will always remember Michael and his dad singing at Good Shepherd -- and how inseparable they seemed.  When I heard the terrible news last night, I was immediately heartbroken for his parents.  I cannot begin to imagine your pain, and I am so very sorry about this seeming unbearable loss.  May your faith in our powerful and merciful Lord sustain you at this awful time.
