
Myron J. ("MJ") Mintz of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on October 10, 2025. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, MJ earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Temple University's School of Business before enlisting in the United States Air Force. Following his service, he practiced as a Certified Public Accountant while attending Temple University School of Law, where he graduated with high honors and served as Executive Editor of the Law Review.
After law school, MJ was recruited as an "Attorney-Advisor" to the Honorable Bruce M. Forrester at the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. He later entered private practice before returning to public service as Associate General Counsel on the Cost of Living Council, Executive Office of the President under Donald H. Rumsfeld. When the Council concluded its work, he joined Charles W. Colson, Special Counsel to President Richard Nixon, in private practice. He was later enlisted by Mr. Colson to establish Prison Fellowship Ministry and served as a founding member of its Board of Directors.
After the election of President Ronald Reagan, MJ was appointed to the ERISA Advisory Board to the U.S. Secretary of Labor. He went on to serve as a Board Member of the U.S. Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation and was later appointed Chairman of the Corporation by President George H.W. Bush. He also held gubernatorial appointments under Virginia Governors George Allen and James Gilmore.
MJ was a longtime seasonal resident of Edgartown, Massachusetts, where he cherished sailing, fishing, clamming and simply "being on the Island". In the late 1980s, he and his dear friend, Stuart Lollis, led the reorganization of the Chappaquiddick Beach Club transforming it from a private partnership to a members-owned Club. He served as both a member and past president of the Chappy Beach Club and was also affiliated with the Belle Haven Country Club, Old Dominion Boat Club, The Cosmos Club, the Metropolitan Club of Washington, D.C., The Eagles, American Legion, Martha's Vineyard Rod and Gun Club and the Portuguese American Club.
A passionate Antiquarian Horologist, MJ was a Silver Star Fellow of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, Inc. and The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, London (established in 1631).
MJ is survived by his devoted wife, Judith, his children Robert A. Mintz (Beth) and Christine L. Blomstrom (John) and his pride and joy grandchildren, Tripp, Katherine, Cameron and Lloyd. He is also survived by his brother, Mark (Barbara), niece, Rhoda Hill and nephew, Todd Mintz (Sarah).
Interment will be held in Edgartown, Massachusetts at a later date.
A memorial gathering will be held at Demaine Funeral Homes, Inc., located at 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314, on October 25, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
