

BRAUN Captain PETER J. BRAUN, USN (Ret.) Lost his hard-fought battle with colon cancer on August 21, 2011, just days shy of his 80th birthday. During his final moments he was surrounded by his loving family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, attended Germantown High School and received a degree in Business Admin at Temple University. He attended the Naval War College in Newport, RI and received a Masters Degree in Int'l Relations at George Washington University. He proudly served as an Officer in the U.S. Navy as a helicopter pilot and was the Commanding Officer of HS-7. His last naval assignment was at the Pentagon where he worked in research and development on the V-22 Osprey. After 32 years of service he retired as a Captain and worked for Technology Applications, Inc. as a defense contractor and retired in 1996. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Claire Liebl Braun, for 55 years. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Claire; five children, Lisa Mino, Judy Albano, Peter J. Braun, Jr., Christine Braun and Rebecca Belice; 12 grandchildren, two sisters, Irene Braun and Dorothy O'Keefe; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Peter enjoyed traveling, boating and spending his summers with his close-knit extended family in Sea Isle City, NJ. He was a Member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and a member of the Old Dominion Boat Club. His exemplary life stands as a testament of faith, hope, courage, and service to his family, country and God. The viewing service will be held Friday, August 26, 2011, 6 to 8 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314. Mass Service will be held Saturday, August 27, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mt. Vernon Hwy., Alexandria, VA 22309. Reception to follow.
