Ann had so much grace and class.  I often share stories of her humor, her wise words, her telling stories of Jay's younger days in the military.  Very inspiring woman in so many ways. We who were blessed to share even a little time with her walked away better people.

I remember Ann with great fondness.  Ann and Jay were a regular presence at Good Shepherd Church, with years of service and commitment.  I always enjoyed seeing them together - it warmed my heart to be a witness to their  everlasting love.  Ann was very kind, gentle, and caring.  She had this quiet grace that you couldn't help but admire.

Ann and Jay have been a part of us for nearly sixty years. During that time Ann has always been a gracious leader of our Navy, our Submarine Community and our lives. Linda and I will miss her.

To Jay, Martine, all the Hylands and the extended family

The passing of our beautiful, fun-loving, kind friend Ann has filled us with sadness.  We have such wonderful memories of those very special years we spent together in Paris where the life-long friendship of our girls Martine and Sarah blossomed and embraced both our families.  We have enjoyed many laughter-filled meetings on your return visits to Paris, when we visited you in Vienna and in the U.S.  
Ann's beauty was striking to everyone and she was also very kind and supportive, a wonderful mix of someone who enjoyed life to the full, a bonne vivante who never forgot those less fortunate than her and who worked tirelessly to reach out to them. 
You have all lost a treasure but we are confident that your deep faith will offer you consolation.
We mourn the loss of our dear friend and agree with one of the previous messages  " que de bons souvenirs avec Ann".

Dear Jay and Family,

We were deeply saddened to learn of Ann's passing and send to you our sympathy and prayers.  You and Ann were so very gracious and kind to us when we visited Paris in advance of relieving you of the Naval Attache's duties in 1989.  During the turnover, Ann helped introduce us to the embassy family and made us feel warmly welcomed.  She was a lady of grace, beauty, and a passion for France, which we now share.  
Very sorry we can't be there for her remembrance but will be sure to visit her when we next return to Annapolis.

I unfortunately didn't know Ann that well, but the few times I met her I was impressed by her graciousness and her kindness.  She had a real presence.  I am so sorry for your loss, and am equally sorry that I can't be there to share in your grief. I will remember Ann for her warm smile and very efficient and accomodating manner in which she led our assignments as  Good Shepherd Lay Eucharistic Ministers for Mount Vernon Hospital. She was a very nice person and I am glad to have gotten to know her.

Hi there,

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mom.  Ann was in my yoga class for many many years at Mount Vernon Hospital  She and her husband were in class together,   Then Ann continued with yoga while her hubby played tennis.  We shared many conversations about love and family while sitting on our mats.  She always had a smile and a positive thought to share.

On a personal note, Ann showed me how to age with grace and style.  She was a beautiful person, body, heart and soul.  May her memories bring you comfort during this difficult time.

Ann was a former board member of Good Shepherd Housing and a steadfast supporter of our affordable housing mission.  Through her board service and volunteer work, Ann truly made a world of difference in the lives and housing for so many struggling families in our community.

Mom and I are so very sorry to see this news.  We certainly will miss seeing Ann's wonderful smile and receiving her lovely greeting at Sunday mass.  I treasured seeing her and you at the Washington State University graduation when my daughter was graduating with her PhD and your grandson was graduating.  How wonderful to meet so far from home.  You and all your family are in our prayers.

Jay, it was always a pleasure to see you and Ann together over the years. She is an absolute radiant gem and will be missed by so many. Our family is keeping Ann and your family in our prayers.

we are so sorry for your loss. Ann was an amazing person and i know you have lost your best friend here on earth but God has gained an Angel in heaven. Ann will continue to keep watch over you and the family. we will miss her very much and know that you and the rest of the family are in our prayers. Looking at the pew where you both sit  on Sunday, and realized that I will not see Ann on that seat again really hit me this Sunday when we heard the news.
