

Colonel Vincent Joseph McManus, United States Army Retired, January 12, 1919-November 23, 2018. “Mac” was born in Red Bank New Jersey and raised in Brooklyn New York. In December 1947 he married the love of his life, Maryelaine Ramey, whom he lovingly called “Baby”. Mac was a great baseball player, student of the game, and a Boston Red Sox fan. He was recruited by the New York Giants, but signed with the Scranton Red Sox. He pitched for Scranton’s 1939 Eastern League Championship team. In 1940 he left the Boston Red Sox organization, choosing to enlist in the US Army. Mac had a distinguished and decorated Army career, serving in World War II, Korea, the Congo and Viet Nam. Mac was awarded numerous medals, to include the Bronze Star and Legion of Merit. After he retired from the Army, Mac had a successful second career working for Hechinger’s. Mac is predeceased by his wife, Maryelaine. He is survived by his four children: Michael Joseph McManus of South Bend, Indiana; Rebecca Moore (Robert) of Portland, Oregon; Kelly Ellsworth (John) of Laurel, Maryland; and John William McManus (Mary) of Ashland, Virginia. Mac has four granddaughters, Alice Elaine Moore, Ashley Rollofson (Randy), Miriam Kerosky (Aaron), all of Portland, Oregon; and Mary Katherine Ellsworth, of Laurel, Maryland, and one great grandson, Leo Vincent Rollofson. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 16, 2019 from 6 – 8 pm at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 12:45pm at Fort Myer Old Post Chapel, Fort Myer, VA with interment following at Arlington National Cemetery.
