

William Irvin Jacob. "Bill" was born May 24, 1927 in Louisville, KY. He enlisted in the Navy and served in WWII on AP-137 in the Pacific as a quartermaster. As part of the Navy''s Enlisted Commissioning Program, he attended Speed engineering school at the University of Louisville and was commissioned as an Engineering Duty Officer. He served at the Boston and Norfolk Naval shipyards before entering the Navy Reserve and eventually retiring as a CDR, USN. After leaving Active Duty, he then worked as an engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Belvoir, VA. His interests included sailing, saxophone, reading and relaxing with his family at their home in Mt. Vernon, VA or vacation home in Corolla, NC. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Hannan Jacob of Paducah, KY; son William Hannan Jacob, Sr. (Cindy); daughter Sara Louise Rothwell (Rob); granddaughter Melissa Ann Jacob; grandson William Hannan Jacob Jr., and sister, Sister Martha Jacob. Bill passed on to eternal life on January 18, 2016. Viewing to be held January 30, 2016 at Demaines funeral home in Alexandria, 2 to 4 p.m. Funeral services and interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
