

Jean Marie Stevenson Coxon, 92, of Longwood, Florida passed away on January 11, 2022 at Advent Health Hospice, Altamonte Springs, Florida. She was born November 6, 1929 in Denmark, Iowa to Milo Stevenson and Inez Patten Stevenson. On May 5, 1951 Jean married John William Coxon. Jean was active all her life, growing up on a farm. She excelled in school and loved learning and reading. Jean graduated from Iowa Wesleyan University with a teaching degree. Later in life, Jean received a Bachelor of Elementary Education from The Pennsylvania State University. Jean taught in the towns of Redfield, Donnellson and Denmark, Iowa. She was a substitute teacher for years in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Columbus, Indiana and Boulder County, Colorado. She loved being part of her hiking club, Wilderness Wanderers, hiking the Grand Canyon, Switzerland, Yosemite, and New Zealand just to name a few places. She loved playing bridge. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, League of Women Voters, and United Methodist Women Circle. She loved the Lord and being a member of the Methodist Church throughout her life. She is survived by her son David (Tammy) Coxon of Lyons, Colorado and daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Jeff) Ward of Longwood, Florida; six grandchildren; Kelsey (Vincent) Krische of Longmont, Colorado, Madisson Coxon of Niwot, Colorado, Noah Coxon of Denver, Colorado, Olivia Ward of New York, New York, Sarah and Elise Ward of Longwood, Florida; her brother; Richard (Bess) Stevenson of Monroe City, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milo and Inez, her husband John, and her son, William Coxon; her sister, Joan Pumphrey Walker and her brother, Robert Stevenson. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Sanlando United Methodist Church, Longwood, Florida. Memorials can be made to Sandlando United Methodist church, Denmark Congregational United church, Denmark, Iowa or Orlando Union Rescue Mission.
