This loving and caring man of God has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed by his children Zulma Weeks, Ramón “Billy” (Rosana), and Teresa Abney (Bo), as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Lucy, his wife of 61 years, sons Alberto José “Bertito” (13y) and Alberto Rafael (1mo), parents Ramón and Antonia, brother Carlos, and his son-in-law Ernie Weeks.
Family love and Catholic faith are the legacy of Ramón’s life. He was a dedicated Abuelo to Andrea (Andy), Chrissy, Veronica, Alex, Rachael (James), Libby (Kris), Deanna (Alex), Kim (Ethan), Ashley, and David. He cherished his role of Abuelito to his great-grandsons Ian, Beau, Noah, and Grayson. In addition to his immediate family, Ramón is survived by his sisters Sandra and Ileana (Héctor), as well as many precious nieces and nephews.
Ramón was born in Corozal, Puerto Rico in 1937 and went on to have a distinguished career in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country for 28 years, rising to the top enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His military accomplishments include not only serving in the Vietnam War, but also in assignments managing Air Force personnel, both stateside and overseas. After his retirement from the Air Force, Ramón earned his bachelor’s degree from UCF and eventually worked in the logistics department at the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division in Orlando, Florida.
Once fully retired he turned his attention to traveling with Lucy to locations such as Rome & Assisi, Italy, Fatima, Portugal, Oberammergau, Germany, for the Passion Play, and Mother Angelica’s Eternal Word Television Network pilgrimage locations in Alabama. He was a strong supporter of worthy causes such as Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital and various Pro-Life activities. He was a true practitioner of daily corporal works of mercy visiting elderly friends, assisting with transportation to mass, and spent time as an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist for the sick of Saint Augustine Catholic Church.
Ramón will be forever remembered for his beautiful smile, gentle eyes, caring heart, warm embrace, and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort knowing that he is in heaven with his Lord watching over us until we are together again.
Ramón will be laid to rest alongside his wife and two sons at the Puerto Rico National Cemetery in Bayamón.
