Robert Boyd Pamplin “Bob” passed away on July 9 at the age of 75 after a long battle with cancer. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Bob managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his wife, children, and friends who he adored more than anything else in the world.
Bob was raised in Reidsville, North Carolina. He received a degree in Business Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served in the Army prior to his business adventures at Sears. He retired from Sears after 34 years. His retirement started by shifting careers into the school system where he loved working with students in North Carolina and Florida. After retiring (again) he went to work at Disney World.
He loved helping others and finding ways to serve in the church and community. Bob had a history with the Rotary, serving as President in Sarasota and other civic organizations.
Bob loved to entertain or just be around his family and friends. He had a passion to travel especially on cruises where he never met a stranger. He loved to joke with those around him. Bob loved to cheer on his sports teams, especially University of North Carolina, Tampa Bay Bucs/Rays, Florida State, Atlanta Braves, and several NASCAR drivers.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susan; their sons, Bo (Alice), Scott (Faith) and Ryan; his four grandchildren, Drew, Will, Charlotte and Katherine; his brother-in-law, Fred Stagg.
