So many wonderful memories of Uncle Bill come to my mind but there are a couple that stand out from my earlier years.
As our families were living in Florida, we often visited various places with Aunt Winnie and Uncle Bill that had swimming pools.  I believe I was around 9 at the time and learning to dive.  Before the weekend was over, Uncle Bill had me doing an inward dive off the diving board (with legs straight and toes pointed as instructed from his years as a gymnast) and a one-and-a-half forward flip in pike position.  This is a fond memory that I will always cherish and I am sure that I could still do those dives today.  
I also recall a time when my mom and dad had gone on a cruise and we stayed with Aunt Winnie and Uncle Bill at their house.  On Friday night they took us to see the famous “JAWS” movie and then on Saturday morning we were planning on going scalloping in Uncle Bills boat. I recall it was not running perfectly but could count on it to be working by the time we were supposed to go because Uncle Bill always got things to work.  As you can imagine as a young child after seeing JAWS, going out in the ocean in a boat was not the first thing I wanted to do but was reassured by Uncle Bill that it would be fine (at it was). 

His smile would light up the room and Lisa and I could always count on a heart-felt warm Uncle Bill welcome whenever we saw him over the years.

I am blessed by these and many more memories and our time together and look forward to the day when I see him again.

So many memories of Uncle Bill have faded with distance and the passage of time, but a few still stand out:
Whenever we visited I could look forward to the fragrance of his pipe smoke and see treasure filled pipe tobacco cans in his workspaces. 
He always seemed to have projects in process and I particularly remember him building a small, flat bottom, wooden boat from scratch in his garage in St. Pete with the intent to scoot around the lake near there (not sure if he ever was as successful in achieving that vision as he wanted to be).
Riding in one of a string of truck tire inner tubes that were being towed by him well beyond the breakers (or what seemed to be) at Galveston beach...digging deep pits in the sand for wind protection for our evening fires...dragging a net through the surf to see what minnows or other creatures we could catch...trolling for mackerel from the back of his boat...
Traveling together with our families in a convoy of two loaded station wagons and spotting the ribbon tied to the end of a walkie talkie antenna (his idea I'm sure) pop out of the passenger window to signal the need to discuss our next stopping point.
His smile was broad and his laugh was infectious, it seemed that his entire small frame would often shake with his laugh.
His dancing, polka in particular at family life events, was always so energetic and light on his feet.
His faith, which included daily devotions in his room when he stayed with us for a time.

I am blessed by these memories and our time together.

Bill was always smiling. Laughing and smiling. And his eyes would twinkle when he would tell you a story or a joke. 

And I will always smile when I think of him wearing his Lederhosen's at the OctoberFest...such a wonderful sense of humor.

We will miss you greatly, my friend.
