Avelardo (Al) was born to Enrique and Nieves Trevino on June 22, 1939 in Gregory, TX. He was raised in Crystal City, TX. He joined the United States Air Force after he graduated from high school. He was stationed in the Philippines before he landed at the Amarillo Air Force Base, where he met Alberta Chavez and they were married on Feb 2, 1963.
He did construction work for awhile, then worked at Texaco Refinery until the plant closed in 1982. He went to work for the US postal service as a mail carrier until he retired.
He enjoyed wood working, carpentry, and being an all task handyman. He built three of his family homes and remodeled one.
He was a member of The Baha’i Faith, and championed equality and justice. He had a generous heart, a joyful spirit and saw the good in everybody he met. He gave of himself selflessly. Family was the center of his life. He was a loving and kind devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. In his eyes his grandchildren could do no wrong and to him they hung the moon. He also had a special place in his heart for his 3 great grandchildren.
Despite the challenges of life he always had a positive outlook and was full of jokes and loved to see others laugh. He was loved dearly and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Alberta, his son Steven and wife Denise, three daughters, Pam Gallaway and husband David, Veronica Shaw and husband Don, all from Amarillo, and Selena Orona and husband Michael from Alexandria,VA. Eleven grandchildren, Mackenzie and husband Nate, Trevor and fiancé Annika, Emily and fiancé Carlos, Madeline, Max, Holly and husband Josh, Nicholas and wife Andrea, Brianna, Octavio, Joaquin and Ayla. Three great grandchildren, Mason, Avery and Luisa. His brother, Ruben Trevino.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Nieves, and four infant siblings, two brothers and two sisters.
