Cleta Faye Upton, 87, a longtime resident of Amarillo, Texas passed away from this life and ran into the arms of her beloved Savior on September 14, 2023. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo with Dr. Hal Rogers officiating.
Cleta was born on April 6, 1936, in Canute, Oklahoma to Louie Brookshier and Imogene Sullins. She married James “Jim” E. Upton, and they shared 40 plus years of marriage. After 30 years of her dedicated work in classified documents record keeping at Pantex, she finally retired. She was such a fun, loving, kind, and compassionate person and she loved her family greatly. Cleta had a great love for animals and cherished all of her precious dogs throughout her life. Cleta had many talents, but one of the most gifted skills she possessed was expressed through the art of her beautiful paintings. Painting was one of her most favorite things to do. She could paint just about anything; self-portraits, landscapes, flowers, animals, and she even painted pictures of the Lord and what she thought he might look like. Cleta’s paintings now hang in the homes of her family and many friends. Cleta was also an excellent cook and she loved to serve food for her family and friends, especially around the holidays. Most importantly, Cleta loved the Lord. She was an absolute devoted Christian who followed the teachings of Jesus Christ all of her life. She was a dedicated student of the Bible and spent a great deal of her time active in church and present at Bible study. If you needed someone to touch Heaven and pray for you, Cleta would be a fervent prayer warrior for her family and friends and anyone who needed prayer. After finishing the course of her life, she passed peacefully, and received her greatest gift and honor as she met Christ face to face, and heard these precious words, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
Cleta was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her husband, James E. Upton, and four younger siblings.
Survivors left to cherish her precious memory are her sister, Chris Bowerman and husband, Bill, of Arlington, Texas and several other loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
