

Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Garden of Faith Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with her grandson, Pastor William P. Raies of Christian Life Center of Midland officiating Burial will be next to her husband Paul, in the Garden of Faith Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.
Emma “Em” Virginia Mattys Walker was born Dec. 12, 1913, in Minneapolis, Minn., to George Mattys Sr. and Julia Vasil Washelt Mattys. Em died peacefully 13 September, 2010, while residing briefly at the Sombrillo Nursing and Rehab Center in Los Alamos, N.M. Em married Paul Wilson Walker on Sept. 6, 1931, in Raton, N.M. He preceded her in death on May 03,1990.
Em moved at an early age from Minneapolis, MN, to Calhan, CO, and then later to Colorado Springs, CO, attending school in both municipalities.
Paul worked for the El Paso Natural Gas Co, and as the result, he and Em served for many years in various natural gas distribution stations in Wyoming, New Mexico, Colorado and Texas, finally retiring in 1962 in Amarillo, TX, where they resided until their deaths.
Em was a member of the St. Luke Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, serving Christ with the congregation throughout her life in Amarillo. She lived constantly in prayer for others, helping others in many ways with personal service, food items, and assistance such as providing rides to appointments when necessary.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, George Jr. and Henry Mattys.
Em is survived by their only child, Virginia F. Turner and her husband Robert of Los Alamos, N.M.; two grandchildren, William Paul Raies and his wife Jan of Midland; and their three boys, Will, Micah and Joshua, all of Midland and Lisa Ann Raies Rioux and her husband Graham of Peoria, Ariz., and their sons, Garrett and Gavin; and daughter, Liana Rose of Peoria.
