

Eugene LeRoy Houk, Sr. of Edmond, OK. passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the age of 91. He was born on April 30, 1924 in Ingalls, KS to William Jefferson Houk and Myrtle Dell (Hewes) Houk. He had seven siblings.
Gene served in the Navy during WWII. He married Ellen Roena Davis in 1948. They were married for 60 years and had three children.
Gene began a career as an optician with American Optical Company in 1948 and worked at various branches. When he retired from American Optical, he opened ABC Optical in Amarillo, TX. After many years in Amarillo, he retired in 1999 and moved to Midland, TX where he was active in the Midland Senior Center. He moved to Edmond, OK in 2014 where he continued to be active in the Edmond Senior Center. Gene was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Roena; and three brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Houk Seewald of Loveland, CO; son, Gene Houk, Jr. and wife Pat of Phoenix, AZ; daughters Gwen Jennings of Amarillo, TX and Teresa Haskin and husband Danny of Commerce, TX; grandchildren Jessica Haskin Metz and husband Kevin of Edmond, OK; Justin Houk and wife Laura of Cambridge, MA; Chirstine Houk Kimpel and husband Caleb of Tempe, AZ; Aubrey Woodward Glenn and husband Mark of Silt, CO; Casey Jennings Smith and husband Chris, of Amarillo, TX; and Lindsay Jennings of Amarillo, TX; sixteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 25 from 6-8 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home located at 6969 East I-40, Amarillo, TX
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens of Amarillo located at the Canyon Expressway at McCormick Rd. (I-27 South).
