

After graduating high school, Gerald proudly joined the United States Navy, where he trained and served as an Electronic Technician. Following his Naval service, he continued his commitment to his country by joining the United States Air Force. A veteran of the Korean War, Gerald embodied loyalty, patriotism, and dedication throughout his life. Beyond his military service, Gerald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He consistently placed the needs of others above his own and loved his family with all of his heart. He traveled across the country to ensure his grandchildren and great-grandchildren would always remember him and their beloved “Granny Sue,” creating cherished memories that will be held close forever. Gerald was also deeply involved in the bluegrass community. He was well known for his musical talent, his participation in countless performances and jamborees, and his leadership as president of the Bluegrass Association. His passion for music enriched the lives of many and fostered a sense of community everywhere he played.
He will be greatly loved, remembered, and missed by all who knew him.
Gerald is survived by his sons, Gerald Tolbert Jr. of Waller, Texas, and Donny Tolbert of Amarillo, Texas; his daughter, Evelyn Wright of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Tolbert and Marie Berry; his brother, Willard Tolbert; his sister, Cindy Berry; and his loving wife, Jerrie Sue Tolbert.
