John was a loving, giving man and truly the heart of his family—a devoted husband, a proud father, and a cherished grandfather. He met his soulmate, Alice Burns, and they were married on May 22, 1967. Their marriage was a beautiful example of lifelong love, partnership, and devotion.
John dedicated 27 years of his life to serving as a Texas Department of Public Safety Senior State Trooper. Helping others was not just his career—it was his calling. He lived his life with honor and integrity and was a man of his word, someone you could always depend on.
He had a gift for working with his hands and was a master woodworker who could fix just about anything. John found joy in creating, repairing, and helping, and he shared those talents freely with those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jerry Burleson; and his beloved granddaughter, Bailey Hegwood and great grandson Silas Burleson.
Left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Alice Burleson; his children Tammy Harmon and husband Wade, John Burleson Jr. and wife Leah, and Sherri Hegwood and husband Mike; his grandchildren Ethan, Cole, Dillon, John Michael, Chris, Chase, Haley, and Michael Scott; along with many treasured great-grandchildren, family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
