Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Davis Speed, pastor of Osage Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
John was born Sept. 14, 1921, in Denton to Luther and Hester Shannon. He married the love of his life, Earline Shannon, on Oct. 21, 1940. They were married for 57 years before she passed away in 1997.
John resided in Norwalk, Calif., until he retired in 1982, then he moved back to Amarillo. He was in the motor freight business for 20 years in Amarillo and heavy machinery moving industry for 17 years in California.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Shannon and wife Nina of Henderson, Nev., and Johnnie Shannon and daughter-in-law Annette Shannon of Amarillo; three brothers, L.F. Shannon and Floyd Shannon, both of Amarillo, and Henry Shannon of Phelan, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to The Arbors, 1910 Medi Park Drive, Amarillo, TX 79106-2187.
