

Loretta Howell, 74 of Amarillo passed away July 9, 2014. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Jerry Davey officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East. Loretta was born January 25, 1940 in Amarillo to Francis and Ina Belle McCown. She was raised in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1958. She married David Howell on June 19, 1958 at her parent’s home here in Amarillo. Loretta retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 33 years of service as a telephone operator. Both Loretta and David retired in 1991 and began traveling. They loved to travel and see the country and always stopped at every casino they saw along the way. She was an animal lover with a gentle fondness towards cats. Loretta was known for liking and enjoying southwestern Native American art as well as jewelry. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and aunt and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her son, Lee Howell; her parents and a niece, Brenda Forman. Loretta is survived by her husband, David Howell of Amarillo; nieces, Bernice Gipson and husband Ken of Fritch, Texas and Beverly Goodman and husband Steve of Carthage, Texas; nephews, Dennis White and wife Donna of Flower Mound, Texas and Don White and wife Amy of Cibolo, Texas; sister-in-law, Dorothy White and husband Bernard of Carthage, Texas; also by numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be sent in lieu of flowers to Amarillo SPCA or any horse rescue organization.
