Marianne O. Fox, age 83, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Funeral services are scheduled for 2pm, Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel. Graveside services will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery at 1pm prior to services.
Marianne was born on June 10, 1940 in Dortmund, Germany to Heinrich Knierim and Anneliese Becker. She married Wilmer Earl Fox on April 31, 1959 and together, they shared 46 years of marriage and had five children. All of their children were born in either a different country or a different state, due to Wilmer being in the army. Marianne lived in Amarillo for 39 years. At the time of her passing, she was residing at the Hudson House in Canyon. Marianne wasn't particularly fond of the kitchen but was famous for her potato salad and lemon pound cake. She had an incredible eye for fashion, styling everyday ensembles, with equal attention to her hair, depending on whichever hairstyle was trending. She often showed love by bringing home fashionable finds to dress her family as well. Her smile was genuine and warm, and her marvelous laugh filled rooms and hearts with joy. She was always up for a game of bingo with the grandkids, ready with dimes and nickels for prizes. Born in Germany in 1940 and immigrating to the United States, Marianne faced a number of hardships with resilience, strength, courage and heart. She melded to American culture but hung tight to her German citizenship and heritage, a heritage also cherished by her family. In 2017, she and her kids returned to her hometown where memories came to life for them all. She was always true to herself, never relinquishing her strength and spunk, despite some of life's toughest challenges. She passed that tenacity along to her kids, leaving a legacy of determination, quiet faith and faithfulness and good humor-with a touch (at least) of sarcasm.
Marianne was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Fox on 0ctober 25, 2005 and her son, Jeffrey Scott on January 1, 1966.
Survivors left to cherish her memory are her children, Nina Fox (Andy Battye), of Maui, Hawaii, Linda Hinders (Gary Hinders), of Canyon, Texas, Michael Fox (Melody Fox), of Amarillo, Texas, and Denise Jones (Tony Jones), of Greenwood, Arkansas; one sister, Karin Besier (Gunter Besier), of Wiesbaden, Germany; her grandchildren, Ashlee Milton (Keefer Milton), of Fayetteville, AR, Amanda Graham (Tyler Graham), of Lubbock, Texas, Matthew Hinders (Amanda Hinders), of Dallas, Texas, Marshall Hinders, of Denver, CO, and Taylor Fox (Sam Watts), of Fort Worth, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Aunaliesa Milton, Breckyn Graham, Lexington Graham, Amelia Hinders, Ian Hinders, and Ralston Hinders.
The family would like to express a thank you to the Hudson House and BSA hospital for their kindness, respect, and professional care provided to Marianne.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a memorial contribution to Amarillo Angels at 112 SW 8th St. Ste 610 Amarillo, Texas 79101 or to your favorite charity to help make this a better world like Marianne did.
