Mary was born on May 13, 1939 in Quail, TX to the late Elbert Richards and Connie (Craft) Richards. She married Archie R. Maxfield on January 20, 1956 in Amarillo, TX and they were married for 21 years. Together they had 3 daughters. At the young age of 15 & 16, Mary helped to care for her ailing mother in their home until her mom passed away. Her natural nurturing instincts were manifested in her professional career as a nurse. Mary worked as an LVN and charge nurse for more than 20 years prior to an injury in 1999 that ended her nursing career. She worked at several nursing homes in Amarillo including Georgia Manor where Mary herself chose to live for the last several years of her life due to her declining health. Prior to becoming a nurse, she cared for many children in her home to supplement her family’s income. Mary was a loving mother and fine example to her children and was fondly referred to as “Nanny” by her grandchildren. Mary received the Holy Ghost in 1959 and was baptized in Jesus name. She attended Northside United Pentecostal Church and served the Lord faithfully until the Lord carried her home. She served her church in earlier years as ladies auxiliary leader, Sunday school teacher, bus ministry and years of peanut brittle making for church fundraising. Her heart for the elderly and disabled in her community lead her to voluntarily give manicures and pedicures to those who could not otherwise do it for themselves. She is preceded in death byher parents; Elbert and Connie Richards; her grandson, Jason Darrell Hunt; her brothers, Jack, Ted, Othal, Olan, John and Bill Richards; and her sisters, Dora Jacobs and Oletha Fry.
