Nelda Marie White Baker

Nelda Marie White Baker, 76, of Amarillo died Thursday, June 2, 2011. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery East with the Rev. Dale Bigham of Arden Road Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St. Nelda was born March 3, 1935, in Panhandle to J.B. and Zella Marie Garretson White. She was a doll fanatic and was a member of a doll club. She was a Cub Scout leader for 10 years and was a member of a square dance club. Nelda was a member of Arden Road Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.B. and Zella Marie White; a son, Eddie Lynn Tackett; three sisters, Delores Grayson Ensley, Vesta Louise White and Tommie Lee White Jones; and a brother, Thomas Beacher White. Survivors include her husband, Albert W. "Jerry" Baker; a son, Shawn Albert Baker of Amarillo; a daughter, Sandra M. Whatley and husband John C. of Charleston, S.C.; a brother, James Newton White and wife Conde Marie of Amarillo; three sisters, Ramona Pearl Price, Carrole Jean Brigman and husband Bill and Loretta Ann Connely, all of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Arden Road Baptist Church Mission Fund, 6701 Arden Road, Amarillo, TX 79109.
