A celebration of Paula’s life will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 2pm in the Griggs Schooler Gordon Pioneer Chapel located at 5400 Bell Ave in Amarillo; with Natalie Lowe presiding. Burial will be private.
Paula was born on April 07, 1944 to Paul and Ethel (Frederiksen) Townsend in Groom, Texas. When Paula was eight months old, her father Paul was killed in action serving overseas in World War II.
She graduated from Tascosa High School in 1962. While attending school, she met Gary R. Hedgecoke, and the two were married in 1964.
Paula loved to travel in her earlier years. International travel was one of her many passions and she was fortunate to see many distant lands such as France,Rome, Denmark, Stockholm, as well as many others. Paula was at her best when spending time in her garden or working in her greenhouse. She was an extraordinary cook and always cooked enough to feed any friends that might drop by. She was capable of baking absolutely anything she put her mind to. There were many people that suggested she open her own restaurant, but cooking for her family was her true joy. She enjoyed all holidays, but her love of Christmas was legendary . She would transform the inside of the family home into a winter wonderland that could rival the North Pole. Paula loved her family deeply and was loved deeply in return. The adoration she had for her grand babies was incomparable and she took great pleasure in spoiling them rotten.
Paula was a beloved wife, mother, “Mimi”, and friend to all who were blessed to know her.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband Gary Hedgecoke, daughters: Amy Hedgecoke; Julie Prince and husband Chris; and Lisa Morgan and husband Gwen, all of Amarillo. Paula also leaves a legacy as Mimi to her three grandchildren:Karli Prince, Kyler Conger, and Jake “Mimi’s Duck” Morgan, all of Amarillo; and one sister Janice Golladay of Amarillo, as well as many other loving family and dear friends.
