Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at South Georgia Baptist Church with Pastors Bob Miller and Mike Martin officiating.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 I-40 East.

Ruth was born July 23, 1935 in Carthage Missouri to Harold Christman and Clair Beers. Alverna Ruth grew up in Missouri and moved to Amarillo in 1950. She graduated from Amarillo High in 1954 and went to work for SIC Insurance. Ruth met her husband to be, Robert G. McLain, in roller skating competitions and married Robert on March 24, 1961. She worked from 1982 to her retirement in 1999 as a preschool aide at St. Paul Methodist Church. Ruth was a devoted housewife and mother who loved her family, cooking, sewing, square dancing and watching any sports in which her kids or grandkids were involved. She was a member of T.O.P.S. and the High Plains Scottish Society. Alverna Ruth loved traveling, especially with the Sonshiners group from her home church. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, George Christman; and a granddaughter, Stormy Hofmann.

Ruth is survived by her husband; 2 sons, Robert H. McLain and wife Connie of Channing and Chris McLain and wife Liz of Stavanger Norway; a daughter Robyn Hofmann of Amarillo a sister-in-law, Lois Christman of Royce City; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren

The family suggest memorials be made to the Empty Stocking Fund PO Box 2091 Amarillo 79166.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
