

William “Bill” Almer Lee passed away on January 10, 2021 at the age of 83. He was born in Wilson, TX to the late Alma Doris Hagens and John Welch Lee on December 18, 1937. Bill was also preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Ballinger. He is survived by: his wife, Wanda Lee of Lubbock, TX; his daughters, Katherine Richards (Andrew) of Mineral Wells, TX and Shanna Balsley (Tim) of Amarillo, TX; his only son, William Kent Lee of Wolfforth, TX; his grandchildren, Jamie Ballinger of New Orleans, LA, Alysia Miller (Klay) of Amarillo, TX, and Anthony Cowan of San Marcos, TX; and his great-grandchildren, Dorian Byers of Ft. Worth, TX, Eric Byers, Jr., of New Orleans, LA, Shya Byers of New Orleans, LA, Kira Blond of Ft. Worth, TX, Eyva Star of Amarillo, TX, and Atticus Miller of Amarillo, TX.
Bill attended Slaton High School, and at the young age of 18, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he dedicated his services until retirement in 1980. While in the Airforce, he studied electronics. Following his military career, he embarked on a new profession and began working for the Lubbock Avalanche Journal as a computer technician until retiring. Bill always had a love for music. He was a talented song writer, singer, and guitarist. He even performed as a D.J. for the radio station KDAV in Lubbock and was a member of the West Texas Music Association. Bill made many friends throughout his life, and made them easily. He was always taking care of others, and when there weren’t any more people for him to take in, he cared for many stray animals with the same love and care he gave the human members of his found family.
He was truly one of a kind, and will be remembered fondly for his endless hospitality and kindness toward anyone in need. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in Lubbock Cemetery.
