Born in Amherst, TX, on September 23, 1946, to Myrtle Stevenson Puckett and John H. “Blondie” Puckett, Wilma was one of seven children. She attended the Muleshoe school system, where she built lifelong friendships and a deep-rooted love for her community. It was there she met and later became the beloved bride of Willard Don Nicewarner in July 17,1962.
Together, they lived in several cities across Texas before eventually settling back in West Texas, where their hearts belonged. Wilma proudly served at the Veterans Affairs (VA) office as a Medical Records Technician, dedicating herself to helping veterans and the doctor’s treating them, a role she cherished until her retirement. Wilma was an active member of both her church and community. Her deep love for God, country, and state was evident in the way she lived — proudly displaying flags and memorabilia that symbolized her values. Her passion for rodeo and western heritage was unmatched; she attended numerous National Finals Rodeos and supported the sport wholeheartedly. Above all, Wilma loved her family immensely. She was a tireless and joyful presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren attending ball games, concerts, auditions, and everything in between. She was also a devoted den mother in the Boy Scouts of America. Her laughter and joy were contagious, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. Wilma’s favorite quote, “Always stand for the flag and kneel for the cross,” embodied her deep patriotism and faith.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Nicewarner, with whom she now rests in eternal peace; her parents, Myrtle and Blondie Puckett; and her siblings, John H. Puckett Jr., Mary Brantley, and D.W. “Dee” Puckett.
Wilma is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Willard Don Nicewarner; her children, Ricky and his wife Karen of Bastrop, Texas, Randy and his wife Marianne Brookline, New Hampshire, and Ralanda “Lana” and her husband Jeremy Amarillo, Texas, and 8 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Catherine “Chat” Mobley, Joyce “Jossie” Scott, and Eddie Puckett.
