Ann “Nancy” Maher, born in Brooklyn, NY June 1, 1923, passed away peacefully in her home on February 25, 2011. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 1974, and her son Andrew, in January 2011. Nancy is survived by her three remaining children, Dan Maher, and his wife Janet of Albuquerque, N.M., Kevin Maher of Anaheim Ca, Barbara Shortt and husband Woody of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren Elizabeth Maher and her husband Jeff MacDonald, Katie Wray and husband Taylor, Susan Hickcox, and Richard Maher, all of Albuquerque; and two great-grandsons, Tommy and Teddy Wray, of Albuquerque.
Nancy assisted in her husband’s law practice for many years prior to his death, and then was employed at Disneyland for 15 years in the Labor Relations Department. Later in life, she re-entered the workforce as an administrative assistant for the Anaheim School District. Nancy loved USC Trojan football and Baskin-Robbins mint chocolate chip ice cream.
She was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, and combined with a lifelong interest in Jungian psychology and yoga, she participated in a varied and expansive spiritual life.
Nancy’s primary focus in life, however, was to provide unconditional love and support to a wide circle of scattered family and friends. Her home and heart were always open to all who needed her loving guidance, sage advice, and access to Disneyland. Thanks, Nancy, for always “leaving the front porch light on.”
